Many Mayor recommended the appointment of Cheryl Wooley to fill Roger Freeman’s unexpired term. Mrs. Wooley has vast experience in law enforcement and drug enforcement in the state of Oklahoma and served as a Child Welfare Supervisor for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. Mrs. Wooley moved to Many when she married Donnie Wooley 11 years ago.
The Mayor contacted the LMA attorney and the Secretary of State; and Pastor Jim Manning and Stanley Cook with the The Life Church called the Attorney General to find out what the criteria would be to qualify a person for appointment. All three state agencies stated that anyone appointed must have the same qualification as anyone running for the office. There are only two qualifications. One must live in the city limits and be a voter of the town for twelve consecutive months.
Before making the recommendation Mayor Freeman met with the Police Department to inform them of his plans. The Many Police Department is in favor of the appointment. On Monday at 12:00 Noon the city council met in special session. Mayor Freeman made the recommendation of appointment of Cheryl Wooley, the first female Police Chief in Many’s history and one of few in the state of Louisiana. City council voted unanimously to elect Cheryl Wooley as Many’s Chief of Police.
